Happy Coeliac Awareness Week
Happy Coeliac Awareness Week!
When the team at Coeliac New Zealand asked if we wanted to partner with them for Coeliac Awareness Week, it was an automatic yes!!
This year's focus is the variety of ways coeliac disease manifests in people living with the condition. A lot of people have the stereotypical gastrointestinal problems, but did you know that a lot of sufferers have totally different symptoms? Here is just a sample:
🟦fatigue and insomnia
🟦hormonal and reproductive issues
🟦brain fog and frequent headaches
🟦skin rashes and mouth ulcers
🟦anxiety, irritability and depression
There could be as many as 100,000 kiwis with CD, but many are undiagnosed! It is so important to speak to your doctor if you suspect you may be one of them, as following a strict gluten-free diet is the only way to not only ease symptoms but also prevent long-term damage to your body.
We are helping get the word out to restaurants about the importance of catering to this group and what steps they can take to ensure their gluten-free food is coeliac safe, as well as take into account the very big group of sufferers who have a second or third restriction. There are a lot of people with Coeliac Disease who can’t tolerate dairy!
If you have coeliac disease and have not checked out Coeliac NZ, you should pop over to their website. They provide support and guidance, as well as ways you can help spread the word and get more restaurants to understand the needs of your community!
At Eat Choice, we prove to restaurants that gluten-free diners are financially worth catering to with search analytics, and we provide (via CNZ) training for staff to ensure our recommended outlets understand your needs. The free Eat Choice App lets you combine dietary issues and select restaurants based on your level of gluten-free comfort!
If you have a favourite gluten free menu you’d like us to include let us know!
